Economic Development Package 2A

Background:

EDP2A is a Dairy project which focuses mainly on Development of Dairy Value Chain in Balkh District of Balkh Province. The main components of this project include distribution of hygiene kit packages and input packages consisting of fodder crop seeds to 1300 rural households and provision of trainings to supported grantees (one female and one male per household) in cattle management (hygiene, fodder production and consumption), provision of veterinary services through Veterinary Field Units (VFUs), establishment of a milk processing plant, strengthening market linkages, establishment of 5 Milk Collection Centers (MCCs) and organization of farmers in to groups (association or cooperatives) for sustainability of the project. The implementation of this project was started in June 2013 and was implemented by ItalTrend until June 2015. EDP 2A was extended in July 2015 which included establishment of 10 new MCCs, upgrading 15 existing dairy farms as well as conducting training and distribution of hygiene kit packages to 1500 household dairy producers. The current phase of this project is being implemented by CARD-F IU and is expected to end in December 2017.

Objective:

The objective of this project is to increase rural income, create rural employment opportunities and stimulate private sector investment in dairy value chain in Balkh province.
