Economic Development Package 2B

Background:

EDP 2B is a cotton value chain development project focusing on production and process of cotton in Balkh. Actual implementation of the project was started by CARD-F IU in June 2013. Main components of this project include provision of technical support and distribution of input packages (seed, fertilizers) to 2,500 cotton grower farmers, supporting two cotton processing plant by procurement and installation of cotton seed oil extraction and cotton oil refinery machines, upgrading one soil lab, training of investors and farmers, provision of extension services, organizing farmers into groups (associations or cooperatives). Initially the project was planned to end in June 2015. The project was extended in July 2015 and planned to end in December 2017.

Objective:

The objective of this project is to increase rural income, create rural employment opportunities for women, promote export of processed cotton and stimulate private sector investment in cotton value chain in Balkh.
