Economic Development Package Helmand

Background:

EDP Helmand is horticulture, apiculture and poultry value chain project implemented in districts of Lashkargah, Nawa, Grishk and Nad Ali of Helmand province. It has 3 components which are establishment of 20 broiler farms, 100 honey bee farms, 57 commercial greenhouses as well as strengthening of market linkages. Main activities include organizing farmer into groups (associations or cooperatives). This project is implemented by CARD-F implementation unit (IU) and the implementation work started on October 2013. The initial end date of the project was December 2014. The project was extended in January 2015 to September 2016. IU continues providing extension services to grantees of this project.

Objective:

The objective of this project is to increase rural income, create rural employment opportunities and stimulate private sector investment in poultry, apiculture and vegetable value chains in Helmand province.
