Economic Development Package Herat

Background:

EDP Herat is a replication of successful components of EDP 3 and EDP 2A. This project covers development of two value chains 1) Poultry and 2) Dairy in Herat province. The poultry value chain includes subcomponents which are establishment of 200 SSL farms, 12 broiler farms (5,000 capacity), 2 new broiler farms (10,000 capacity) , 1 breeder farm, 1 hatchery farm, 1 poultry clinic and 6 commercial layer farms. The dairy value chain includes establishment of 2 Veterinary Field Unit (VFU), 2 Milk Collection Centres (MCC), distribution of dairy hygiene kit packages to 400 household dairy producers and upgrading one milk processing plant. Implementation of this project started by CARD-F Implementation Unit (IU) in July 2015 and its initial planned end date was December 2016. The project is extended until December 2017.

Objective:

The objective of this project is to increase rural income, create rural employment opportunities and stimulate private sector investment in poultry and dairy sectors.
